Tomato Dal

Ingredients:
  • Toordal - 1 cup
  • water - 3 cups
  • Tomato - 2 big(finely chopped)
  • Small onion - 1
  • Green chillies - 8 finely chopped
  • Cilantro
  • Garlic - 1 pod
  • Turmeric - ¼ tsp
  • Red Chilli powder -1/2 tsp
  • Marble-sized tamarind
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2tsp
  • Red chillies - 2
  • Oil - 2tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Curry leaves

Procedure:

  • Wash Toor dal well and add 3 cups of water.
  • To this, add chopped tomatoes, green chilies, turmeric, red chilli powder, cilantro, tamarind, garlic and pressure cook for 3 -4 whistles or till it is cooked.
  • When the dal is cooked add the salt.
  • Heat oil in a pan, fry the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chilies, onion and when they are done add into the dal.
  • Serve with rice or chapathis.
